Synthetic Cubism in Bodypaint

Synthetic Cubism in Bodypaint

Cubism is an art movement which tends to be sectioned into two different sections. The first stage being analytical cubism and the second being synthetic cubism. Analytical cubism began around 1908 till 1912 where synthetic cubism came around. The first type on cubism tended to overlap shapes because the artist was often looking at one object through all different viewpoints. The colours tend to be very basic and dull, this made the audience focus on the images structure.

Synthetic cubism was a later development in the cubism movement. It started to become more known from 1912 - 1914. The images produced in this movement tended to use shapes which were more simple and basic as well as bright colours. Many artists began using patterns and textures on their paintings which often appeared like collages. Instead of looking at a 3D image and drawing various viewpoints like analytical cubism, synthetic cubism almost flattened out the object. It was founded by Pablo Picasso and George Braque but was later copied by others.

In body painting many people have interpreted cubism by using overlapping shapes as part of a design for the face or body. They often adopt the usage of bright colors too and use contrasting colurs together to bring more attention to the art.

Themes to Explore: Henna

Henna often known as 'Mehandi' or 'Mendhi' has been used for body art for many centuries and is still popular today. Henna is the name of the plant which has a strong pigment, this stains the skin and makes the pattern created by the paste stay on the skin. They are often called temporary tattoos and have been used by the people of Ancient Egypt, India, and Asia. Some people even use henna to dye their hair as well as their skin as the plant contains a pigment called Lawsone, this combines with proteins and causes a long lasting stain.

the Henna plant grows in tropical climates so places like: India, Australia, Asia and Africa. Body art is often piped on the body for religious celebrations and weddings. This is often on the hands, arms, feet and legs. Many years ago when Henna originated, people in the deserts of India found that covering their hands and feet in the henna paste made them feel a lot cooler. They then started to create patterns and designs from the paste, that slowly became a tradition for brides to have for their wedding day.

I had the pleasure of learning about henna on a previous makeup course and it became a hobby of mine to practice and design different patterns. Here is a few images of my work:

Madeeyelook

Alexys Fleming runs a Youtube channel called "MadeEweLook" which she uses to upload videos of her creating different body painting characters. This is how I came across her work and since then I frequently follow her uploads. She taught me a lot about which kinds of paints work well for each purpose and how to use them properly. She was one of the main reasons I got so into body painting and I used to try and recreate her designs. Her looks are mainly character based but are all very unique and interesting to watch and gain new ideas. She is self taught as a body painter but has also studied cosmetology so has an understanding of skincare and makeup application. I relate to her because I have the same background and hope by the time I reach her age I will also be as talented.

Kay Pike

Kay Pike is a self taught body painter who has gained social medias attention by posting her amazing comic book character body paints on herself and others. I find this so impressive as I frequently paint myself and I know ow much small details can be difficult to paint on yourself so seeing the extent of her work left me in awe. i love character body paint so her work was a massive inspiration to me and continuously gives me ideas. She even does a live stream of her body painting each week on Wednesdays and Saturdays on twitch. I first found her when I was looking at her portfolio on her Instagram and have been a fan ever since. She specializes in cosplay body paints and it's interesting to see her bring the characters from comic books to life and make them look so much like cartoons.

Anna Lingis

Anna Lingis is a makeup artist from London. She learnt the tricks of the trade by assisting Sue Sian and since then her career has taken off massively. Her talents range from beauty and fashion to face and body painting. I found her transformations incredible and enjoy following her ever growing portfolio. I like how well rounded she is and is able to adapt her skills for every part of the industry and still maintain a high standard of work. She entered the UK Face Awards and was one of the finalists which brought a lot more attention to her as an artist. She seems to specialise in skull face paints and has perfected them. Whenever I do halloween makeup i take nspiration from her as n my opinion she is one of the best I've seen.

Matthew Arfanotti

Matthew Arfanotti is an Italian artist and body painter. He studied Architecture ans design but had a love for creating art. This makes his work very unique as he has a lot more structure to the designs he creates and has the ability to make something look like an illusion. I love how his work has his own unique style which is recognizable as him but is still so different. His body paint is completely different to his artwork which gives you different perspectives on what he can do and its good to see what works on the body and what works well on a canvas or sculpture. As he is educated in different areas it makes his work different to others as he views things differently and knows how to build something up to create a mind blowing final piece. He was recognized for his major talent when he won the 2013 World Body Painting Competition.

I first discovered him on Instagram and fell in love with his work instantly. His talent is undeniable and i'm lucky enough to say he follows my body painting page too which is so inspiring for me. I started to watch videos on how he does what he does and found the process so fascinating and refreshing as I began to see just how he can create something which looks so surreal. His artwork and bodypaint will continue to amaze me and I constantly look forward to seeing what character designs he makes.

Products used for Bodypainting

Products used for Body Painting and the Differences Between them

Water Activated Paint

Water Activated paints are exactly what they say they are: Water activated! These can come in two forms; Glycerin or wax based paints. The paint is completely dry without any liquid to activate it, the more water added the more runnier and diluted the colour.

Glycerin Based Paints:

These paints are generally softer as a cake and tend to have a smooth consistency.
They can dry slower which is helpful when blending colours together. They can also
be set with powder to increase their longevity. These tend to work well as a base and can hold powders and glitters quite well. They can be rubbed off the skin if that area is touched a lot and can be harder to use when trying to do detailed lines as it is easy to load too much product on the brush when mixing it with water. Very easily to remove with water after application is done.

Brands:

Kryolan Aquacolor

Wax Based Paints:

Wax based paints are also activated by water or liquid. They tend to be thicker than the glycerin paints and are good for line work and details. As a base it can feel heavier than glycerin based paints.
They dry a lot faster and may be harder to blend. As a cake they can be a lot firmer and can be very dry. They are more durable but can still be removed by water or sweat.

Wolfe FX

Alcohol Activated Paints

Alcohol Activated Paints only become useful once alcohol has come into contact with them. They cannot be removed by sweat or water and can last in heat. These paints do not go off and last a very long time. It can only be removed with a removed or alcohol. These tend to be used more in special effects for bruising or veins. This is because if applied correctly the colours can look as if they are under the skin. The more alcohol used in the paints the more translucent the colour will be, whereas with less alcohol the colour will look stronger. They can also be used to paint on tattoos as they are long lasting and can look realistic. They are activated by 99% alcohol or the activator by the same company as the palette. These palettes tend to be very expensive though and are marketed more towards artists into special effects. They are hard and solid until alcohol is added. They are almost like watercolors. The alcohol can kick up some fumes as well so it's important to use these in a well ventilated area.

Brands:

Cream Makeup

Cream makeup doesn't have to be activated by anything and can be directly applied to the skin when needed. it is easy to blend and it is often oil based but this means it can be harder to wash off. Oil and water don't mix so you will need an emulsifier in order to clean the skin, most cleansers can do the job for this. Cream paints can dry sometimes but without being set with powder they can transfer or smudge quite easily. Can be longer lasting because they wont be removed by sweat. These can be harder to remove from the brush too so are not the best for lines and details sometimes. Colours can be mixed easily.

Crazy Jester

Crazy Jester

I wanted to do a look which was a bit different so I choose to do a jester. I made it more of a creepy design as I like the idea of a crazed jester.

For this look I couldn't find a jester hat I liked so I made a head piece to suit my design.

The Head Piece

Products and tools

Tin Foil
Black Electrical Tape
Masking Tape
A headband
Red Acrylic Paint
Black Acrylic Paint

Step by Step -

1) I took a plain pink headband and covered it in Black Electrical tape. I then ripped off a few sheets of tin foil and molded them into a horn shape. I repeated this again and so I had two. I then covered them in black electrical tape. I wanted to make them even bigger so I wrapped more tin foil around them until I was happy with the size. Masking tape was then wrapped around them and one was painted black and the other red.

2) Once the pieces were dry I then glue gunned them to either side of the headband.

Makeup

Products

Snazaroo Black Face Paint
Snazaroo Red Face Paint
Snazaroo White Face Paint
Snazaroo Pink Face Paint
MAC 'Ebony' Black Pencil Liner
Mascara
Black Eye Shadow
Red hairspray

Step by Step -

1) I started off by outlining the mouth with back face paint. The shape is a bit more pointed on the chin than any of the other mouth shapes I've painted. Once the outline in complete I then painted in the teeth inside and between each tooth I use pink paint to create a gum. I then filled I the teeth shapes with white and black was used to colour everything else in the mouth outline.

2) I then used red paint around the mouth outline and went on to outline the edge of this in black which will create lips. The eyes were the next step. I used black paint to create the harsh shape of the brow and then joined the bottom of the eye shape with the top. It's hard to explain the shape so it's easier to look at the face chart/ images of the final look to try and follow the shape. I then filled this in with red paint and shaded the inner corner with black eye shadow. I also blended this under the new brow. The waterline, lower and upper lash line were then lined with MAC's 'Ebony' Black Pencil Liner. I then blended this out with black eye shadow.

3) My face was then painted white and I added curved lines above my brows to make them appear raised. I also added dashes near the inner corner of my eye going onto my nose to make it appear crinkled. Black paint was used to paint on the nose which is almost the shape of a skeleton nose but just thinner and pointier. Again this is easier to follow the shape by looking at the images. I added smile lines just above the mouth too.

4) Mascara was swept through the lashes. White paint was taken down the neck and on the ears. I then painted white spiky shapes on the chest and outlined them in black. I used black shadow to add lines between the spikes to give them more definition. I also blended black shadow on the very tips of them.

5) I used the same Black Pencil to draw diamond shapes on the chest. The easiest way I found to do this was to use the gap between the two spikes and draw a triangle at the bottom of them to create a diamond. I then painted them black. This was extended down the chest with more diamond shapes in red and then in black.

6) White circles were added at the end of the spikes and I outlined these in black. My hair was put into pigtails (bunches) and the bottom were sprayed with red hairspray. I then put on the headband to complete the look

MAC Black Eye Pencil

Black Eye Shadow

Step by Step -

1) I started off by painting the whole face white. I then mapped out the eye with black face paint. I made the top line curved to give the appearance of an eyebrow. I then added a line above the curved eye shape to further give the face a creepy expression. I used a black eye shadow to blend this out slightly.

2) I add a bit of black eye shadow around the eyes and use white paint to smooth the colour out and fade it a bit. This gives the new eye sockets depth. The mouth is then painted on as a thin smile and is slightly thickened on the lips. Dashes are added across the line. The nose is quite challenging as he character himself has his nostrils up quite high but when I tried that it didn't look right so I added ovals just above my natural nostrils in black paint.

3) I painted several square shapes down the neck and out lined this with black paint flicking inwards on each side to made it look like cartoon bones. The edges are shaded with the black shadow. A cat face is then outline on the center of the chest and filled in with black leaving two eyes which are coloured in white. I then used white paint to create a curved triangle shape on the chest below the cat which will be part of his costume. The edges are shaded with the black shadow.

4) The rest of the chest and arms are then painted black leaving a curved white strip at the top (above the cat) which should be the top part of the white vest under the black suit. I then outlined the spiky triangles leaving 3 on either side of the cat with white paint. I added lines in the middle of each spike and a half line joining to the part of the outline which is closest to the cat. I then painted on the fold in the suit, I had to go around the spikes with the line coming out towards the shoulder then thinning going down to the chest. Stripes were added down this strip with white paint.

5) I outlined the cat i white to make it clearer. A white line was added to separate the shoulder/arm area to the chest like a seam on a normal suit. White lines are painted down the chest and arms. The neck is painted black around the white bone shapes. Black pencil liner is added to the waterline and mascara is swept through the lashes. I rounded the face shape by using black paint around the edges of my face. I added a black hat to cover my hair. The look was then complete.

Ripped off Face

Ripped off Face

I wanted to try a creepy gory Halloween makeup look and as I still have a latex version of my face I thought I could use this too. I saw an image of a makeup look where someone face was almost split in half and one side was sliding off. I took inspiration from this and will try and find the original image to show where this idea came from.

Products

Pro-shield by Kryolan
Urban Decay Primer Potion
Urban Decay Smoky Palette ('Thirteen', 'Password' and 'Combat')
Kryolan Supracolor Palette (079 light red, 082 dark red)
Sleek Concealer Palette in Light
Maybelline Gel Liner in Black

False Lashes
Cotton Pad
Pros-aide
Black Pencil Liner
ProBlood
Artex by Kryolan
Ben Nye Thick Blood in Dark
Ben Nye Thick Blood in Light
Latex Face (see 'inner demons makeup look)

Step by Step -

1) Firstly I cut my latex copy of my face in half. To make the latex copy of your face refer to the 'Inner Demons' makeup look. Pro-shield is a barrier foam which I added before all over the skin on my face to protect it from staining as red greasepaint and blood can stain the skin.

2)I then took a black eyeliner and mapped out a line where the blood will start and the rest of my face will be intact. I then primed the eyes with primer potion and used 'Thirteen' from the Urban Decay Smoky Palette to set this. I then used 'combat' from the same Urban Decay Palette as a transition shade on the eye which will be opposite the gory side. 'Password' which is again from the same palette is swept through the crease of the same eye to give a smoky effect. Winged eyeliner is added on the upper lash line with a Black Gel Liner by Maybelline. The inner corner and lower lash line is lined using an angled brush dipped in 'Black Market' from the Urban Decay Smoky Palette. Mascara and lashes are added to the eye. Sleek Concealer is used under this eye and set with powder.

3)Time to move on to the gory side of the face. I used Prosaide to glue a cotton pad over my eye as to give the illusion that I no longer have an eyeball. I then coloured this over with a light red (079) grease paint from the Kryolan Supracolor Palette. I darkened the edges of the cotton pad with a dark red Supracolor (082). I used Artex by Kryolan all over the face to create an uneven texture. Artex is a product which comes in part A and part B. You mix together equal amounts and it will start to set but it can set quickly so you have to work fast. I hit the edges of the cotton pad with this and as it started to dry I manipulated it with a metal spatula to make it uneven. Gelatin is a cheap alternative for Artex.

4) I then coloured the gory side of my face with the light red Supracolour (079) and where there would naturally be a shadow ( the dips of the textured Artex) a darker red Supracolour is used to add depth the the edges (082). I then used Ben Nye Thick Blood in Dark and Light to not only add blood but also add chunks of flesh like clumps to the skin. I put quite a lot of the darker thick blood on the cotton pad to give it the appearance of depth in the eye socket considering I no longer have an eye visible. Problood by Kryolan which is a runnier blood is then added to the face. Washing up liquid can be dabbed on top as an emulsifier if the blood separates due to the oil in the Supracolour cream makeup.

5) The half of the latex face can be cut into what shape or width you like. I cut mine down so there is a space in the middle which made the look almost disturbing to look at. Thick blood can be added to the edges of the line in the middle of the face. This is the final look.

This can be slightly uncomfortable for the eye which is under the cotton pad but it is an effective look.

Another halloween look I've been planning is the devil. This look was complete with homemade horns.

Horns

Products

Skin Illustrator Palette (alcohol activated)
polymer Plastic

Step by Step -

1) For the horns I boiled the kettle and filled up a glass jug with water. I then put the polymer plastic balls into the water and waited till they turned from white to clear. I then scooped them out and then started molding the plastic into a horn shape. The best method was to roll it like a sausage and then smooth the bottom by putting it against a straight surface and pinch the top so it goes into a more pointed shape. Keep repeating this until the plastic hardens and the shape will stay. I then got a metal spatula and added grooves down the sides of the horns.

2) The horns were then painted with a black skin illustrator tone and dark red was added tot he bottom thicker part. The horns were then complete.

Snazaroo White and Black Facepaint
Dollymix Blush by MAC
MUA Matte Winter Collection Palette (Chino)
MUA Romantic Efflorescence Palette (Captivate, Lavish)

Step by Step -

1) White face paint is applied all over the face, A few coats may be needed to get fuller coverage. Clown white, Supracolor cream makeup or white foundation can be used as an alternative base. I then brushed white paint through my brow hairs to coat them and make them less visible.

2) I used black face paint to paint on the brows and did the arch a bit higher than my natural arch. The front of the brows have a rounded shape. I then used 'Captivate' and 'Lavish' From the MUA Romantic Efflorescence Palette to add frown lines at the start of the brow and to add a curved line above the brow. This make the brow appear as if it is raised. I then used the same shades to contour the cheeks but give them a rounded shape stemming from the nasal fold to along the cheekbone. The nose is also contoured. I then blended some lines from the chin to the center of the apple of the new cheek we have just created.

3) I then took black face paint and painted my eyelid and lower lash line to create a new black eye for the mask. When the eye is closed this will make it appear as if it is part of the mask. The mustache is then added by creating a small triangle where the cupids bow is and then adding a line on either side going down and then across and then up. This sounds confusing so it may be best to follow the shape in the picture, I used a picture reference of the mask to help with this. I wanted the mustache to end under the apple of the cheek.

4) The two shades from the same MUA Palette are then used to create a straighter bottom lip as apposed to my natural curve of my bottom lip. This joins at the sides with the mustache. I then added a rim around the eyes with the same shadows and darkened the inner corner with them. Wrinkles were added around the eyes by making dashes with an angled brush dipped in the same shadows. A small curved line was added under the eye on the cheek to give the appearance that the face is smiling.

5) The chin has a painted kinda of goatee on it so again I used picture reference to get the shape right and painted this on with baack paint. MAC Dollymix Blush is added on the highest point of the apple of the cheeks and on the center of the bottom lip. 'Chino' from the MUA Winter Matte Palette was used to darken any lines that may have needed more definition. White facepaint is used to highlight around the wrinkles and lines of shadow to make them stand out further.

The look was then complete. This is a fairly easy and quick look to do and is soo effective for halloween with or without your eyes closed. Gel liner can be used around the eyes with a primer to stop creasing if needed.

New Cheshire Cat

New Cheshire Cat

The new Alice in Wonderland film came out a few months ago so I drew up as design for the newer version of the Cheshire Cat. I really love this character, so much in fact that I have already done a look based on the older cartoon version. I wanted to change things up a bit and use more face paint for the eyes whereas with the other there was more glitter and liner.

Face Chart

{insert face chart image}

I actually designed both looks for this character at the same time which was fun as you can see the differences and similarities in each.

Products

White, Pink, Grey, Turquoise, Blue, Black Face Paint
Turquoise eye shadow
Yellow eye shadow
Eyelash Glue
Cheap makeup brush for whiskers
Glitter liner in 'Distortion' by Urban Decay
MAC eye shadow in 'Saddle'
Maybelline Gel Liner in Black

Step by Step -

1) To start this makeup I took a black face paint and painted the circles around the eyes. I also painted the outline for the mouth. The rest of the face was painted with a grey face paint. I then painted the teeth in the mouth outline by using the black paint to sketch out their shape and then filling them in with white. The mouth is a lot thinner than the pink Cheshire cat look. White face paint was blended under the nose just above the mouth.

2) I then painted a black line on my nose to form where the cat nose will be. pink and white paint was mixed to create a light pink and i then filled in between the lines. A dark peach is eye shadow is then used to shade the edges of the nose ( I used 'Saddle by MAC). A black line is painted down the bottom of my nose to join in with the mouth.

3) I used a turquoise green colour on the bottom half of the eyes and then a darker blue on the top half. I then added a bit of yellow at the bottom to lighten it further. I used some cheap eye shadows in yellow and turquoise to dab along the bottom half of the eye. This helps blend the paint into the dark blue. For the cat-like pupil of my eye I used Maybelline Gel eyeliner as this will not smudge. I painted on the top half on my lid in a long triangular shape and then painted it on the lower half which is below my actual eye. I then darkened the outline of the eye in black and used a white dot on the upper left side. I dotted some turquoise paint near the white dot to make the eyes look as if the light is reflecting off them.

4) Black dots where added below the sides of the nose, above the mouth. I then took strands of black hair from a cheap makeup brush and glued them on to the black dots for whiskers. Grey paint was painted all down the center of the chest. On either sides of that I painted stripes of turquoise and darker grey alternately with a fan body painting brush. This makes the paint appear like fur which is a great effect when designing animal or creature face paints. I added flicks of grey with the same brush on the forehead and extended it slightly down the nose. I also took this around the edges of the jaw and face. The turquoise colour was added in the same manor around the face and I finished this off by adding white on the fan brush and going over the center of the chest and occasionally the striped paint.

5) Glitter liner in 'Distortion' was streaked through the fur to add a sparkle to the look and make it appear more magical. I also added this around the white dots in the eyes so they reflect more. The look was completed with a blue wig and black cat ears.

Creepy Doll

Creepy Doll

As halloween approaches I wanted to do another scary makeup look and this time I opted for a creepy doll.  As normal I designed a face chart to plan what I wanted to do for this look.

Step by Step -

1) I started this look by blocking out my brows. I took a cotton bud which ad pros-aide on and applied this to my brow hairs in the opposite direction of hair growth to ensure the hairs are properly coated. I then took a spoolie and brushed the hair up and flattened them to my head with my finger. I powdered when this was dry and repeated this several times. By doing this you fill in any grooves that are in between the airs and the texture of the area smooths out. Once this is done I then apply Urban Decay Primer Potion to my eye area and set this with 'Orb' by MAC which is a Pale Pink/Cream Shade.

2) The base colour is mixed using Kryolan Clown White with MAC Full Coverage Foundation in NC15. I dabbed with onto the covered brows to cover them completely and spread the foundation over the top half of my face (above eye level). This is because I didn't want to get fall out when I apply the black shadow. This look is very messy so you can always apply the base first but I didn't for this look. I then Powdered the foundation with Ben Nye Setting Powder in White.

3)  The eyebrows were drawn on with the a Dark Brown Eye Pencil/Kryolan Supracolor 101 Brown. I just used a cheap pencil for this, just make sure its pigmented well so the colour isn't sheer. I made sure they were thin with a very high arch. I would use the Supracolor if I needed the colour to be darker.I started at the top of the bridge of my nose and used 'Brun' Eye Shadow by MAC to darken where I drew the brows.

4) I then took the purple shadow from the Sleek Acid Palette and blended his in the inner corner just below the new brow and through my crease. I blended this up to where my natural brows would be so it gives the illusion of a bigger eye. I then darkened this with 'Carbon' by MAC. I used Barry M Eye Shadow Pencil in 'Gold Creme' on my eye lid and then pressed the White Gold Shade from the No7 Smoky Rose Quad Palette into this to set it in place.

5) I then took Black track and painted a line under the eye and used Kryolan Cream Liner in 'Snow' to paint along the waterline and lower lash line inside the black line underneath. I then lined the upper lash line and did a little flick at the end. Mascara was combed through the upper lashes.

4) The fall out from the eye shadow was cleaned up and he rest of the foundation was applied to the face and neck. This was set with Ben Nye White Face Powder. The purple shade from the Sleek Acid Palette is blended under the lower black liner and 'Carbon' by MAC is also smudged under the eyes. I used a finger to drag the black shadow down my face. I used the dark brown liner to create freckles by dotting it gently on the center of my face.

5) I then out lined my dolls lips with the Urban Decay Black liner in 'Zero'. I used Maybelline Super Stay Liquid Lipstick in 'Cherry Pie' on the center of the outline I have created. I then took the same Black liner from Urban Decay and drew a line from the outer corner of my mouth curving upwards and placed crosses on this line to look like stitches. This was copied on the opposite side. Black Track Gel Liner was used to paint on irregular shapes on the forehead and neck. I then made little crack-like lines stemming from the corners of each shape and blended 'Omega' by MAC around this. Then with the foundation shade I highlighted around the edge of the shapes to give it more depth.

6) I added Eylure Texture lashes in 157 and Kryolan No 9392 Lashes on the top lash line. I then applied Red Cherry Wispies on the lower black track line. I darkened the lip line with MAC 'Bespoken For' Lip Liner.

I completed the look with a short brown haired wig, A bow headband, A doll dress and white knee high tights.

Suicide Squad Joker

Suicide Squad Joker

Black track Gel Liner
'Brule' and 'Carbon' Eye Shadows By MAC
Kryolan Clown White
MAC Full Coverage Foundation in NC15
Urban Decay Primer Potion
MUA Winter Forest Matte Palette (Dark Grey)

Snazaroo Face Paint in Red, White and Black

Hair Spray
Kryolan Silver Tooth Enamel

Step by Step -

1) I started this look off by blocking the brows. Once this is done I then apply Urban Decay Primer Potion to my eye area and set this with 'Brule' by MAC.

It doesn't matter too much if you do with this look as the joker is a bit messy but I preferred not to. I then Powdered the foundation with Ben Nye Setting Powder in White.

3) Black Track Gel Liner was blended onto the eye lid and into the crease. This was set with 'Carbon' eye shadow by MAC and blended out. I also took this under the eye going all the way in. The fall out was then cleared up with a cleansing wipe and I the started to apply the foundation. I wanted to contour the face so I used  grey colour in the Kryolan Supracolor Palette and contoured the cheeks extending it down towards the mouth. I then contoured my temples and jawline and blended in everywhere I put the grey contour shade.

4) The foundation was set with Ben Nye White Setting Powder. The contour was darkened slightly with a dark grey eye shadow from the Winter Forest Matte MUA Palette. Mascara can be swept through the lashes. The nose is slightly contoured with the Dark Grey shade. Foundation is applied and set all down the neck and chest. The black shadow on the under eyes is blended more in the inner corner where a natural bag of the eye would be.

5) Maybelline Super Stay Liquid Lipstick in 542 'Cherry Pie' is applied to the lips. The bottom lip is over drawn and the top is too but with no emphasis on the cupids bow, the jokers lips are straight at the top. I then took Snazaroo Black Face Paint and painted 'Damaged' across my forehead. This was quite difficult to do by myself because you have to think about how others will read it and how it will photograph to make sure it makes sense. I wrote the word down on a piece of paper and put it against my head to figure out which way it should be written. I made a line going down from the outer side of my eye in a straight line to below my eye. On the opposite eye I painted a 'J' underneath. On the same eye I took the dark grey eye shadow and made a line going up from the inner corner of the brow. I then made another line on the outer corner slanting slightly.

6) I started to paint on the chest now. The cars were painted over the collarbone and the 'HAHA' tattoos were painted underneath. I then painted a skull with a jester hat on the other side of the chest. This can be difficult when painting on yourself. Foundation is taken down the arms and set with powder. I then painted the teeth on the forearm with Snazaroo paints in black, white and red. I painted the teeth first then added the lips around the edge. The hair was put in a low bun and hair sprayed away from my face. I then coated my hair in Green Hairspray till I was happy with the colour. The teeth were my last thing to do so I wiped them dry with tissue and painted Kryolan Silver Tooth Enamel over them.

The look was now complete.
