Darren Ambrose is a hair stylist from the UK. He opened a salon in 1996 which has become a huge success although he progressed on to style avant garde hair and won an award for it in 2007. Since then he has one another 4 awards and is known for his visionary styles. His inspirations include Alexander McQueen who is also know for his innovative ideas. He now holds shows across the world to demonstrate and teach his skills. His wife, Jackie, also is a hairdresser and they help and encourage each other in the industry. Her interest in fashion has no doubt influenced him and his work. Together they have put a team of stylists together and have their own salon named after both of them as D&J Ambrose.

Imprisoned Collection

The image above really highlights the kind of style Darren has in his work. This was from his Imprisoned Collection which revolved around the Joan of Arc era. He even made the armour suit in the picture with chains to reflect the theme. I like that he thinks of all aspects including the costume and lighting as this had extra lighting from the back to enhance the colours of the hair. A wind machine was also used to create the wispy look to the hair. I feel thinking of all the different elements is something I should take note of and try and work on.

The one thing that separates his work from other hair stylists I have seen is the futuristic feel to it. Although each style is unique they all still have a ultra-modern theme. I like how he even uses airbrushing to add designs and patterns to the hair which really brings the idea together.

When he was asked on any advice he could give others he responded with the importance of believing in yourself and staying focused and true to what you do. I think as hair and makeup stylists its probably the best and most accurate advice he could give.
